PRESS RELEASE / MAXIMUM ENTRY REACHED
WE NOW HAVE 120 FULLY PAID UP ENTRANTS FOR THE WORLD CHAMPS THIS SEPTEMBER. Its great to see such a wonderful response so early in the season. In total, 10 nations are represented. To answer a multitude of queries, here is the policy with regards to what happens next.

We encourage potential participants to continue to register interest. You will go on a waiting list. You will not pay an entrance fee until you are accepted to enter the event. As places become available we will offer them only to those on the waiting list until two weeks before the event. Places will become available in the following circumstances:

1) We have a number of drop outs from the current entry list. This is of course a possibility with such a large number of entrants.
2) We raise the number of allowable entries ('the cap'). This decision will be taken as soon as possible and definitely before... more >>

OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF EVENT
NATIONAL YACHT CLUB GETS PHENOMINAL RESPONSE TO FIRST EVER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SB3
More than 60 crews from 10 countries have already entered the battle to be the first ever World Champion in the sensational Laser SB3 sportsboat. Entries opened on February 1st and will close off when the 120 boat limit is reached – or July 4th.

The event was formally launched at the National Yacht Club last night by the Minister of Education, Ms Mary Hanafin TD, before a large audience of guests including representatives from Dun Laoghaire business, local yacht club commodores and members and SB3 class representatives and sailors.

FROM ZERO TO HERO
EOIN LEAHY'S REVIEW OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE SB3, A SPORTSBOAT THAT HAS BECOME THE LARGEST EVER KEELBOAT CLASS IN IRELAND (article from AFLOAT annual 2007)

HOW IT BEGAN
As with most things in Ireland this started out as a few conversations in the bar during the late summer of 2006 with notions such as, “wouldn’t it be great to have a competitive one design fleet racing in Ireland” and “how much fun would these be at 20 knots” met with a clear positive interest.

Following a successful small demo day organised by Brian at McCready sailboats, a deal with PSE Laser was negotiated providing a discount on new boats ordered by the end of October 2006. Armed with this incentive, the team of early adopters organised a series of 'demo days' to allow people try the boats and see what all the fuss was about.

NATIONAL YACHT CLUB SCOOPS FIRST EVER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR LASER SB3 BOATS
20TH - 26TH SEPTEMBER 2008


Dublin Bay will be the venue for the first ever World Championships for the sensational Laser SB3 Sportboats – the world’s fastest growing keelboat.

The National Yacht Club (www.nyc.ie and www.sb3worlds2008.com) will run the event next September and the huge fleet of 120 boats will be the largest ever assembled in Irish waters for a single make keel boat event.

Host Club - National Yacht Club
The National Yacht Club enjoys a unique position on the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Waterfront, adjacent to the east pier it is noted for its friendly ethos and suitability as a world class sailing venue, having hosted several major successful international sailing events.

The current clubhouse dates from 1870. Today it is a Class A listed building owned by the members and the interior has been refurbished and restored to its former grandeur. Recent additions on the seaward side include an extension tothe platform and launching slips which provide state of the art sailing facilities. Whether you are a land lubber, a died-in-the wool sailor or somewhere in between, the club have programmes and facilities to meet most needs.
